The short version. Zeitgeist asks before it records anything. If you say yes, it sends records of the games you play, tied to a random number that is not your name, so we can balance the cards and fix bugs. If you say no, nothing is sent. You can change your mind at any time in Settings > Data. This website uses no advertising or analytics cookies and no trackers. We don't sell data and we don't show ads.
Who is responsible
Coffee Seed Studio, Zurich, Switzerland, is responsible for the data described here ("we", "us"). Write to us about anything on this page at contact@coffeeseedstudio.com.
In the game
The first time you open Zeitgeist, it asks whether you agree to share your game records. The same choice is in Settings > Data > Game records. Until you say yes, and whenever it is off, the game sends nothing.
What it sends when you agree
- Game records: for each game, the decks, the cards played and what they did, the board at the end of each Day, who won and how long it took, the game's version and mode.
- Session events: when you start playing (screen size, your system's and the game's language, the address of the page the game runs on, the type of device), a signal each minute you play, when you leave the tab, the matches you start, and short error messages.
- The game's log: the game's own text log, to find bugs.
- A random install number, made on your device the first time the game runs. It ties your records together without saying who you are. The game shows a short player code made from it on the Feedback screen, so you can point us to your records.
- Your country, as worked out from your connection by our host when the records arrive. We do not keep your IP address.
Feedback
What you write in the game's feedback form, sent when you press Send, with the email address only if you choose to add one so we can answer you.
On your device
The game keeps your settings, progress, saved runs and any records waiting to be sent on your own device (the browser's storage, or the game's data folder). They stay there. Clearing the site's data in your browser, or uninstalling the game, removes them.
Why, and on what basis
To balance the cards and the adventure, find and fix bugs, see how long people play, and read your feedback. The basis is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time in Settings; that stops anything more being sent, and you can ask us to delete what was sent before.
There is no advertising, no profiling and no automated decision about you.
On this website
- No advertising or analytics cookies, no tracking, no content from other companies: even the fonts come from this site.
- The page remembers the language you chose in your browser's storage. That choice never leaves your device.
- Our host, Cloudflare, handles your IP address and the request to deliver the page and protect it from attacks. We don't keep it. To tell people from bots, Cloudflare may run a short security check in your browser, which can leave a security cookie. It is needed to protect the site and is not used to track you.
Who handles the data for us
- Cloudflare, Inc. (United States) hosts this website and the server that receives the game's records, and stores those records for us. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks, and it acts on our instructions under its data processing terms.
- itch.io and Steam, if you get the game there, handle your account, payments and their own statistics under their own privacy policies. We only see the statistics they show sellers, never your account.
We don't sell, rent or share the data with anyone else.
How long we keep it
- On our server: game logs 60 days, game records, events and feedback 90 days. Then they are deleted automatically.
- Copies we download to study the balance are deleted after 12 months.
- An email you send us is kept as long as the conversation needs, then deleted.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, receive a copy, limit how we use it, or object to it. Write to contact@coffeeseedstudio.com with your player code from the game's Feedback screen: since we don't know who you are, the code is the only way we can find your records. We answer within 30 days. We delete your records from our copies at once; on the server they expire within 90 days at most.
If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC, edoeb.admin.ch), or, if you live in the EU, to the data protection authority of your country.
Security
Records travel over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and are signed by the game, so changes on the way show. Reading them takes a key only we hold.
Children
Zeitgeist is a satire for adults and teenagers, not for children under 16. If you are a parent and your child has sent us data, write to us with their player code and we will delete it.
Changes
If what the game or this site records changes, we update this page and its date first.
